Evaluate the network as a system
Router specifications are easy to compare, but useful networking reviews focus on coverage, consistency, interface quality, wired performance and long-term support. A fast peak result in one room matters less if devices lose stability elsewhere in the home or if firmware updates are difficult to manage.
For wired connections, consider port speed, switch capacity and the layout of the home network. For wireless use, placement and obstacles often matter as much as the access point itself. Testing from multiple realistic locations produces more useful information than measuring only beside the router.
Storage is one of the best ways to expose local-network weaknesses. Copying large files to and from a NAS can reveal whether the bottleneck is the drives, the network link or the client device. That makes the storage and NAS section a useful next step.
Reliability includes maintenance
A router is not a set-and-forget appliance forever. Firmware support, secure configuration, sensible passwords and periodic review of connected devices are part of ownership.
