ASUS, one of
the largest, well
known manufacturers of premium motherboards and video cards
in the PC enthusiast
community, and a long-time partner of video card giant
NVIDIA, shocked everyone
late last year when they announced that they would begin
selling video cards
based on the chipset of NVIDIAS chief rival ATI. While some
saw the embracing
of ATI products by ASUS as a blow to NVIDIA, others
correctly saw it as a shrewd
move to extend their product line and gain more market
share in the highly
competitive and cut-throat video card industry. ASUS
released two video cards
based on ATI’s R350 chipset, one of which is the subject of
this review, the
ASUS Radeon 9800XT/TVD. We will examine what makes this
card stand out from all
the other Radeon 9800XTs, and see what kind of OOBE
(out-of- box-experience) it
provides for the gamer who wants to know if the outlay of
cash for the card is
worth it, and what they can expect for the money.
